Jenna Arthur

 Artist. Writer. Photographer. Wife.

Art is like a sea of lives mixed and blended simultaneously into one tiny space.  Every piece of art is an emotion, a thought, an experience that has been lived, poured out onto canvas, into snapshots, into art.

When I paint or pick up my camera, I hardly ever set out to capture a certain subject. Going purely on emotion, on a feeling, the paint and camera lenses find their way to where they were meant to be. I think of my art is an extension of self. Growing up in an artistic family I’ve always been inspired to create. I was drawn to abstract art and black and white photography at an early age, finding comfort in the art of such artists as Ansel Adams and Jackson Pollock. I often find inspiration in a song, in a word, in juxtapositions others would see as strange or faulty.  Using my fingers and brushes and cameras I sculpt the paint, the pictures into what I feel. It is almost like a dance of paint and light, and subject.

My work thus far has been primarily abstract and geometrical painting with primary mediums of spray paint, acrylic, and found objects. My photography, a combination of noir and nature photography.

Every photo or painting is a tiny piece of me and makes me feel whole, centered. Art is my love, my therapy, my way of communicating to the world. In everything I do I aim to inspire others to create their own stories, their own interpretations.

Currently, the urban settings and decay around me have caught my eye and I am working on a couple different series. My eye is constantly changing, and I don’t believe that you should never limit yourself. I believe that you should let your surroundings inspire you and you should go where the art takes you. Because the drive that is instilled in us as artists, any artist will tell you, is what makes us. The art makes us as much as we make the art. I hope you enjoy my works.

About Jenna

I currently reside in Pittsburgh with my wife, two dogs and cat. In addition to art (and my day job), I am also a foodie and amatuer vegetarian chef, a Freelance Book Critic, and budding natural product creator. I enjoy movies, crafting, reading, shopping, traveling, writing, nature, and outdoor activities, as well as being a shameless bibliophile, aka antique book collector. Most of all I love spending time with my family and exploring my surroundings.
